At Berkley Insurance Australia, we are often amazed when we hear the incredible stories behind how many of our valued clients formed their brands. Many arise out of the painful personal experiences of their founding members, for whom the journey to building a strong commercial enterprise is anything but a smooth ride.

Beginning with little more than a firm belief in the value that their product or service will provide for other people, their journeys to success ultimately inspire many others who are fighting similar battles and dream of a brighter future.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our clients have endured the toughest challenges that their businesses are ever likely to face. True to our company ethos of always being willing to support our clients through difficult times, Berkley Insurance Australia wanted to show some of our struggling clients just how much we appreciate them.

Lately, we have been making purchases from some of our clients whose products we are distributing as gifts to our hard-working employees. We are delighted to show our appreciation to our staff members, who have continually delivered outstanding outcomes for our organisation, despite the adversities of working remotely during the pandemic.

As their products have proven to be such a big hit with our teams, we thought it might be nice to shine a light on some of the clients, for whom we have been showing our love in this way.

The Spoonie Society

The Spoonie Society is a Melbourne-based company that produces heat packs. Started by two industrious young women, Dominique Ribeiro Da Silva and Helene Hill, their mission is to create products that are effective in soothing the pain and discomfort experienced by sufferers of chronic health conditions.

As fellow sufferers of Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, both Helene and Dominique have first-hand experience of living with a chronic illness and know how these can significantly impinge on a person’s quality of life.

They first met on the internet in 2020, when it became immediately clear to both women that they had more than their condition in common. Bonding through laughs and tears, they discussed their ordeals, as well as their shared dream of establishing a business that would have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Both are high achievers. Dominique has built a successful career in Digital Marketing with a prominent health publisher. Whilst in 2019, Helene’s passion for the sport of powerlifting ensured she achieved the distinction of becoming the third strongest woman in Victoria. They have never let their condition define who they are or prevent them from going after their goals in life.

Berkley Insurance Australia are always here for you

Due to the multitude of chronic illnesses, Spoonies as they have become affectionately known, are more common than you might realise. However, many will take great measures to hide their conditions from the outside world. For those living with a chronic illness, the sense of shame and fear of being ostracized by others, leaves them feeling alone and helpless.

In addition to creating a quality product through The Spoonie Society, Helene and Dominique wish to empower other sufferers, so that they can rise above their problems and fulfil their unique potential.

Berkley Insurance Australia is committed to giving our clients the recognition and help that they need. Buying our customer’s products is our latest way of rewarding our client’s loyalty during these hard times.
