Community Underwriting Continues to empower communities in 2023

Berkley Insurance Australia (BIA) is delighted to highlight the achievements of its facilities partner, Community Underwriting, in their 2023 Small Grants Program. This program is a testament to their collaborative approach in supporting the Not-for-Profit sector, demonstrating how strategic partnerships can create meaningful impacts in communities. Community Underwriting’s unique business model has made substantial contributions to a variety of significant projects, furthering our shared commitment to supporting the community.

Community Underwriting allocates 5% of their annual surplus to clients that have renewed their insurances with Community Underwriting. BIA provides additional contributions to support Community Underwriting to respond to a greater number of worthy projects each year.

“In the 10th year of the Grants Program, we are proud to have assisted 52 terrific projects across the sector.”  Stated Community Underwriting Executive Director, Graeme Berwick.

These initiatives include the Koala Kids Superhero Program, Shine and Strength programs for young people, support for women and children fleeing domestic violence, employment training for African refugee women, and resources for families with babies diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss.

The program also supported the hosting of a Christmas BBQ for homeless young people, creating a Sensory Room program for people with dementia, and providing care for rescued wildlife. Further, it enabled the purchase of a portable marquee gazebo for older people in the Bega Valley and supported a community art program for those feeling marginalized.

In addition, this program helped with the provision of defibrillators, replacement fridges, health information resources, and other important equipment. “Our annual donations to NFP shareholders and the Small Grants Program allow us to continue to reinvest our client’s insurance dollars back into the sector.” Added Berwick.  Since Community Underwriting commenced operations in 2014, more than $8.9m has been donated through the NFP shareholders and the Small Grants Program to clients in the Not-for-Profit sector.

BIA has been a supporter of Community Underwriting since 2014 when it was drawn to the concept of an Underwriting Agency with the aim of giving back to its customers who provide support for people in need. BIA is proud to be part of this great initiative by Community Underwriting.
