The Berkley Bolters Ride for Cure

On Friday the 16^th of October our Berkley Bolters team of avid riders strapped on their helmets to take on the task of riding 6 hours along the iconic Sydney Motorsport Park. They were not just taking on an average day of cycling, they were riding to increase awareness and raise much needed funds for childhood cancer research by supporting the Children’s Cancer Institute.

Every year 1000 Australian children and adolescents will be diagnosed with cancer. Every week nearly three Australian children and adolescents will die of cancer. The Children’s Cancer Institute exists solely to put an end to childhood cancer through research.

The day started off early for CEO, Tony Wheatley who fuelled up his body in preparation for the big day.

Next up was arriving at Sydney Motorsport park to get ready the ultimate test of physical endurance and mental toughness. Trevor could not retain his excitement and ready to go first in his BIA cycling kit.

The team started fresh before the race with their adrenaline building for the long day ahead! The Berkley Bolter team consisted of Trevor Williamson, NSW State Manager at BIA, Grant Hollyman from AON, Tony Wheatley CEO at BIA, Kathryn Williamson and Paul Wedlock from Aspen Re.

Three hours in and the fatigue was starting to set in but that did not stop them. Tony stopped to re-fuel and rehydrate in preparation for the next leg.

Once 3.00 pm arrived they knew their race was over but knowing they achieved so much for an amazing cause reinvigorated their energy. The team rode a combined amount of 703.5km, which is an amazing achievement. Their individual goals were smashed with each of them exceeding their own expectations.

Tony Wheatley – 142km

Kathryn Williamson – 113km

Grant Hollyman – 120km

We could not be more proud of our team completing Endure for a Cure 2020 and their incredible efforts supporting a very worthy cause. We look forward to supporting the Berkley Bolters again in 2021.
