Each month we sit down with one of our diverse team members to get to know them a little better. We like to think our underwriters are unique because they offer that local personalised service brokers appreciate. Angie joined our Brisbane team almost twelve months ago and if you have already got to know her we hit her with some questions so you can get acquainted with her too.

Tell us a bit about being an Underwriter?

Learning about new risks every day as no risk is the same. Assessing risks and being able to help brokers to obtain the correct coverage to meet their client’s needs.

How do you like your coffee?

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

I was an international student who came to Australia 20 years ago, so being away from family and living alone abroad was a big thing for me.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

My day starts with coffee and reading news on the internet. Then I get ready and off work.  I joined Berkley Insurance Australia in late July last year and I’m still learning.

Dedicated, Friendly & Approachable. 

What is something people in insurance have to deal with that you want to fix?

I often hear from brokers that they can’t get in contact with the underwriters. However, one aspect that I notice since joining BIA is that we are available to talk to our brokers and assist them with their queries.

What do you like most about working with brokers?

Getting to know their personality so we can understand them and build a relationship. This is important to assisting brokers more effectively.

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?

Watching Bill Burr an American Stand-up comedian show on Netflix.

What podcasts or books are listening/reading right now?

I just finished a book called “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

What is your guilty pleasure?
