Tell us a bit about being a Claims Adjuster?

You must always remember who it’s really all about – the insured. So long as you never lose sight of that you will always have a good day and you will help people.

How do you like your coffee?

Black with one sugar.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

Easy – becoming a Dad!

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

Reading through statements of claim, legal advices, and adjuster reports. Reviewing these reports to make sure the claim reserve is set properly. Make sure I am always mindful of Berkley’s philosophy of ‘play fair, pay early’.

What are three words to describe Berkley Insurance Australia?

Stable, conscientious, client-focused.

What is something people in insurance have to deal with that you want to fix?

The perception is that insurance companies are just about denying claims so they can save money.

What are the benefits of an in-house claims team?

The ability to control customer service levels and quality control over claims decisions. Once you outsource you will always be dealing with a party who at a fundamental level is worried about profit margins.

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?

I watched Bill Burr’s Netflix comedy special “Paper Tiger” last year.

What podcasts or books are listening/reading right now?

I just finished Empires of the Sea by Roger Crowley. It’s about the battle for control of the Mediterranean between the Ottoman Empire and the Hapsburg (Spanish) empire which culminated with the battle of Lepanto (which happened as a direct result of the Knights Hospitaller defeating the Ottomans in the siege of Malta).

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasures are my hobbies which include homemade beer brewing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and gaming.
