Coverholder Community Underwriting announces 2020 Grant Recipients
Our Facilities Coverholder Community Underwriting has a unique business model where they allocate 5% of their annual surplus to clients that have renewed their insurances. Berkley Insurance Australia is proud to once again support the Community Underwriting grants program that has been running now for 7 years.
National Facilities Manager Paul Bleakley says “Berkley Insurance Australia is a big supporter of Community Underwriting and the work they do for the wider community. Every year we look forward to the announcement and reading the inspirational stories of each recipient. We are proud to contribute to fantastic programs like these that take things to the next level”
This year the grant will be supporting various communities such as:
- Pairing adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism with a volunteer who shares similar interests, so they can attend events together and form a friendship
- COVID care packages for families in rural Nepal caring for children with HIV
- 2021 return to school packages for up to 50 disadvantaged families in Dalby QLD increasing the likelihood of increased school attendance
- Forster carer packs for volunteers that look after adopted animals for a Dachshunds rescue organisation
- Swimming lessons for up to 20 families that experience financial hardship in their local rural environment
- Assisting financially disadvantaged women to become work-ready, obtain employment and develop long term career, financial and life plans
- Installation of converted shipping containers to provide crisis accommodation for homeless veterans and their family members in a farm setting which allows ongoing rehabilitation and education.
Executive Director Graeme Berwick said “Our annual donations to NFP shareholders and the Small Grants Program enable us to continue to reinvest our client’s insurance dollars back into the sector every year. Since Community Underwriting commenced operations in 2014, we have now donated more than $4,800,000 to clients/shareholders in the Not for Profit sector – an achievement the whole team and our insurer partners are immensely proud of.”
This is a fantastic initiative and we look forward to sharing the Grant recipient stories soon.
