So as the year rolls into October, there’s a buzz amongst the Sydney brokers and even a few from rural NSW and interstate. Yes, it’s time again for the Berkley Insurance Australia Sydney Golf Day! With our biggest turnout yet, with over 60 competitors attending, the dark clouds loomed, memories of a previous rain-soaked disaster lingered, but fingers were crossed as golf clubs got their final polish. At Pennant Hills Golf Club, the course glistened from recent rains.

The Golf Pro’s briefing wrapped up amid a light shower and playful jabs over past golfing mishaps, players headed to their starting holes. Competition was fierce, with the occasional stray ball and jesting comments keeping spirits high.

The Berkley Beginners clinic also made a comeback, with 7 newbies under the watchful eyes of Pennant Hills Golf Club pros. Transformed from “not even a weekend hacker” to “Where do I sign up for the PGA?”, the clinic instructed many aspects of the game and then finished off with playing a few of the holes.

By day’s end, everyone headed back to the clubhouse for well-earned beverages and the all-important winners’ presentation. As the line from the 80’s classic movie “Highlander” goes, “There can be only one.” This year, it was the team of Geoff Doyle, Ben Willis, and Caleb Richards. Second place went to Lachlan Renshaw, Neil Inns, Luke Heuston, and Berkley’s Paul Bleakley, while Abe Tavares, Daniel Black, and Berkley’s Paul Marques claimed third.

Paul also snagged a nearest to the pin prize on the 9th hole at 130cm, with Justin Young winning on the 14th at 181cm. Evelyn Shih and Luke Hueston took home prizes for their Longest Drives on the 10th, while Carina Bogaard dazzled in the Beginners Clinic – Golf Professionals Pick.

A fantastic day was enjoyed by all, a big thanks to all our supporting brokers and also a thankyou to the stunning location and excellent service provided by the staff at Pennant Hills Golf Club.
